Unexpected vehicle fire

At 1309 hrs on the 4th of July Holbrook was activated for a 16/23 MVA on westbound Sunrise Hwy at Nicolls Rd. Asst. Chief Timo was first on scene and immediately sprang into action grabbing his water can and determining that there was no one inside the vehicle. 81 operator Meghan Williams confirmed a working vehicle fire. Chief Stack was next on scene confirming the location on the guardrail between the westbound express and service roads under the Nicolls Rd. Overpass. Engine 5 arrived and stretched an 1 3/4 inch line. Probationary member James McCormack made quick work of the fire. The driver was removed by a passing National Guard member. He had minor injuries and was transported to the Hospital. The vehicle became impaled on the guard rail during the crash entering the passenger compartment nearly missing the driver. SCPD Highway patrol assisted by HFD Fire Police directed traffic around the scene.
