Several Weeks ago, the Holbrook Fire Department was activated for an EMS alarm of an Adult Male in Cardiac Arrest in the Parking Lot of the local Costco. Holbrook Ambulance 18 & Paramedic 81 immediately responded with full crews out of Fire Headquarters. Upon arrival, the crew rapidly set up and joined Suffolk Police Officers & an Off-Duty Firefighter from a neighboring district, who had started giving CPR and had attached an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the patient.

After delivering a series of shocks, the patient regained a pulse and the EMS crew immediately transported to the area Hospital. Within minutes of arrival to the hospital, the patient began breathing on their own. From time of activation, the patient was treated and transported in under 20 minutes.

During last night's department meeting, A representative of Brookhaven Hospital's ER came to not only commend the efforts of Holbrook FD's members, but to let them know that only 2 Days after being rushed to the hospital in a nearly fatal state, the Patient was able to walk out of the hospital with a clean bill of health.

Due to the combined efforts of the Holbrook Fire Department, Suffolk County PD, and Off-Duty First Responders, the patient was reunited with their family.
