Motor-Vehicle Accident with Car Fire

September 20, 2014

On Saturday, 9/20/2014, the Holbrook Fire Department was activated for a motor-vehicle accident with a reported overturned vehicle on Veterans Memorial Highway, west of Broadway Avenue. Soon after activation, SCPD units arrived on scene to report one ejected patient and the vehicle now fully engulfed in flames with possibly 1 person trapped inside. Rescue 7, Engine 6, and EMS 81 were the first units on the road with full crews. Upon arrival, Captain McGerty from Engine 6 established command and confirmed a working vehicle fire and had 6's crew quickly stretch a line to knock down the fire and 7's crew standby for a possible rapid extrication. EMS 81 immediately attended to the ejected patient to discover massive injuries and stab wounds and prep for immediate transport. Simultaneously, Engines 4 & 5 arrived to provide necessary backup and begin a search of the wooded areas for any other possible ejected patients.

Within minutes of being on-scene, Capt. McGerty placed a Signal 4-Under Control on the alarm with all fire knocked down and only 1 patient involved. Once the patient was transported and units broke down their equipment, Capt. McGerty turned the scene over to SCPD Detectives for further investigation.
