At approximately 1305 hrs. Holbrook was activated for a possible structure fire at the Hillcrest Apartment complex located at 865 Broadway Ave. Upon Chief Stacks arrival he was unable to gain access to the residence due to furniture that was blocking the entrance door, however he could observe a large volume of heat and smoke coming from the eaves. He requested a transmission of a working fire and units were being advised of a possible occupant within. Chief Stack and neighbors were able to open the door and Assistant Chief Heinssen entered with a thermal image camera as Chief Stack assumed command and directed responding apparatus. As Assistant Chief Heinssen approached the top of the staircase he observed a victim seated in the rear bedroom. Chief Heinssen then assisted the semi-conscious victim outside and guided the attack line manned by the crew of Engine 6 and Engine 1 to the kitchen which was where the fire had originated. A second line and vent was done by Engine 2 and Engine 5 with a check for extension to the three side conducted by the crew from Truck 10. Sayville Truck to the scene as a RIT and Bohemia Engine to the scene for manpower. Additional assistance was provided by Commumity Ambulance who transported an unrelated aided case from the scene. Lakeland Engine stood by at Headquarters.
