The Holbrook Fire Department, and many other organizations across the country remember those who have served this great nation on Memorial Day. Begining on Saturday, May 29th. The members of the department showed up in class A uniforms, and broke up into different groups to do our annual grave visitations. Stopping at every site where a past member of the department is laid to rest an American flag was placed in their maltese marker along with a department flag, and flowers. A prayer was said, and the honored men, and woman who have served with us were saluted by the members. On Sunday, May 30th each company held a work detail to prepare their trucks for Monday's parades. The apparatus was washed, waxed, and outfitted with American flags. On Memorial Day the members in class A uniforms headed out to Sayville at 9:00 a.m. to march in Sayville's Memorial Day parade. Following Sayville's parade The Holbrook Fire Department returned to Holbrook to take part in Holbrook's parade down Main Street. The parade continued to Grundy Avenue where it stopped at the LaGuardia Vietnam Memorial for a service. Followig the service the department continued marching back to headquaters where we conducted our ceremony to remember the men, and women who have served as firefighters, E.M.T.s, and the Ladies Auxillary. As the names were read off the memorial bell was rung once in their honor.
